BCCI ask’s IPL to change tender process
March 10, 2010
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) seems to be unhappy with whole bidding process was carried out by IPL Management. The Governing council of IPL orders a major change to the process.
BCCI President Shashank Manoha raised an issue about pre-condition clause of bidders networth to be $1 Billion and above, He suggested that if more corporate or individuals have to bid then this clause had to be eliminated. The governing council members were of the same view as shashank manoha.
A meeting was held by The IPL governing council on Sunday morning. They have decided on modifications to the bidding process. It is said that Lalit Modi, the chairman of IPL was also questioned at the meeting on various clause and its existence. Those clauses are believed to be be the reason of such a minuscule number of bidders to showup.
Mr Modi after meeting announced, “The new document will have some new conditions which the IPL governing council believes will benefit the IPL and Indian cricket in the long term.”
The new tender document will be made available from March 9 and bids are to be submitted by March 21 in Chennai. The new tender will not include clauses on $100 million guarantee a net worth of $1 billion for the bidder.
Mr Modi is not leaving controversy behind him. Bidding process and Dispute with event manager IMG has been major setback to IPL so far. The governing council of IPL had to intervene both the times. Although BCCI has said that Mr Modi will continue till 2012 and report to BCCI president, his future in seems uncertain.
Australian govt assures cricketers of IPL security
February 28, 2010
Chances of Australian cricketers participating in the Indian Premier League (IPL) have improved after the government Down Under assured them that terror threats to the Twenty20 event are “not credible”.
According to a report in The Age, the players received “a measure of reassurance” during a briefing from a senior government official at their New Zealand hotel on Saturday.
Australia are currently on a tour of New Zealand and a senior representative from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) flew down to Christchurch to tell them that a recent threat from the al-Qaeda-linked 313 brigade was “not credible”.
“Retired stars contracted with IPL such as Shane Warne, Adam Gilchrist and Matthew Hayden, will be given the same information in a telephone hook-up tomorrow,” the report stated.
Australian Cricketers’ Association chief Paul Marsh said he hoped to get specific security assurances from the IPL nonetheless.
“Reg is comfortable that the (al-Qaeda) threat is not credible but we still haven’t received a commitment that the security plans will be implemented as laid out,” Marsh said last night.
Shah Rukh dance During IPL
February 27, 2010
Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan on Saturday said he would sing and dance to cheer his Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) team during all the seven matches at Eden Gardens in the third edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) next month.
“I will sing, I will dance, I will be there to cheer up the boys,” KKR co-owner King Khan told reporters via video-conference.
SRK, as Shah Rukh is popularly known, had gone to South Africa to encourage his side during the first five matches of the IPL last year.
He said KKR, in association with Nokia, will host Para (neighbourhood) cricket to create a platform for a new generation of cricketers.
Salman Khan interested in buying IPL team
August 26, 2009
Bollywood star Salman Khan wants to own a cricket team. The actor has met IPL chairman Lalit Modi in Mumbai to understand the bidding process.
Two new IPL teams are to be introduced in IPL 2011. Early reports say Khan is interested in bidding for the Nagpur or Kochi team.
Last year, the average bid was 150 million dollars per team, so Salman will need a serious amount of cash.

None tested positive in IPL: Modi
August 11, 2009
Mumbai (PTI) Indian Premier League chairman Lalit Modi declared here today that no cricketer had tested positive for any banned drugs in the second edition of the T20 League held in South Africa in April-May.
Modi’s reaction came in the wake of reports from South Africa that the country’s fast bowler Dale Steyn failed a drug test as a result of taking painkillers to recover from an injury during the IPL.
Cricket South Africa Chief Executive Gerald Majola said today Steyn was found to have morphine level slightly above the normal because of the painkillers he took and CSA has submitted a report in this regard to the IPL authorities.
“We are aware of the result and submitted a report immediately to the IPL on why this has happened,” Majola said.
