Good Times A Book on Deccan Chargers launched

McDowell’s, the flagship brand of United Spirits, together with Deccan Chargers on Tuesday launched a special edition of Platinum, a book chronicling the success of the Hyderabad team in the second edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The first book signed by the team fetched Rs 18,000 as against the base price of Rs 10,000 in an auction. In all, 500 books will be sold at the base price. Last week, Kingfisher Premium, the flagship brand from the United Breweries Group, had teamed up with Deccan Chargers to provide the team a taste of the ‘Good Times‘ during the IPL season.

Unity secret behind Deccan’s IPL-2 success: Gilchrist

Unity among the team-members was the secret behind Deccan Chargers’ winning performance in the last year’s Indian Premier League, captain Adam Gilchrist said on Tuesday.

Speaking at a function, the former Australia opening batsman credited Deccan Chargers’ fielding coach Michael Young for assembling all the players during IPL-II in South Africa and made them sing a song to tighten the bond among them.

The song instilled cohesion among the players, thus helping them achieve a turnaround in the second edition of the showpiece tournament, Gilchrist said.

The left-hand batsman expressed confidence that the team would also win the third edition of IPL, commencing on March 12.

Deccan Chargers are leaving for Mumbai on Wednesday for the tournament.

Deccan Chargers jerseys to be Sponsored by Puma

Global sportlifestyle company PUMA Monday announced its continued association with the Deccan Chargers as the official sponsor of their home and away uniforms for Indian Premier League Season 3 / IPL 2010.

“Having the right technical gear and footwear during a 240-minute game is crucial to any cricket player,” said Rajiv Mehta, MD PUMA India. “PUMA has made apparel and footwear taking into account the needs of players and they have truly proven themselves once again with the new uniforms.”

Made with 100% polyester, the PUMA Deccan Chargers kits contain contract mesh inserts for comfort and breathability.

In keeping with PUMA’s vision SAFE to reduce its carbon footprint and contribute towards planet sustainability, all equipment manufactured by PUMA is PVC free thus providing the Deccan Chargers an avenue to go green, which is an area the IPL has been focusing on, said an official release.

Rohit Sharma - Best under-23 player of IPL

Deccan Chargers‘ batsman Rohit Sharma has been named as the best Under-23 player of the second Indian Premier League which concludes here tomorrow.

Rohit was selected unanimously for the award, which carries a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh, by former India captains Sunil Gavaskar, Ravi Shastri and MAK Pataudi, the adjudicators of the award.

The 22-year-old right-hander from Mumbai won the award by virtue of the 333 runs he scored in the league stages of the Twenty20 tournament at an average of 27.75 and a strike rate of 119. Apart from his brilliance with the bat, Rohit also shone with the ball, having taken 11 wickets at an average of 11.45, including a hat-trick.

“It is a great honour to be named the Under-23 Success of the League. I’ve been pleased with my form in South Africa, it has been a fantastic competition and I have really enjoyed it,” an elated Rohit said.

“To be recognised for my achievements by three of the living legends of Indian cricket is a great thrill for me,” he added.

Impressed with Rohit’s performance, IPL Chairman and Commissioner Lalit Modi said, “Rohit’s performances have helped light up the IPL. He is without doubt one of the best young cricketers in the world, and has a very exciting future with both Deccan Chargers and India. I congratulate him on becoming the Under-23 Success of the League.”
