Northants cannot play in Champions League: Modi
August 11, 2009
Mumbai (PTI) Irrespective of whether they make it to the final of England’s domestic Twenty20 tournament or not, Northamptonshire cannot play in October’s Champions T20 League in India as the county side still have three Indian Cricket League players, League chairman Lalit Modi said today.
Modi said Northants still have in their ranks three former South Africa players — Nicky Boje, Andrew Hall and Van der Wath — who have not severed their connection with the ‘rebel’ Indian Cricket League.
“Champions League rules are very clear that no team with players connected to any unauthorised cricket can be a part of it. Northants will be disqualified from the League if they enter the final (of England domestic T20 cricket) and there would be a vacant slot,” he said.
None tested positive in IPL: Modi
August 11, 2009
Mumbai (PTI) Indian Premier League chairman Lalit Modi declared here today that no cricketer had tested positive for any banned drugs in the second edition of the T20 League held in South Africa in April-May.
Modi’s reaction came in the wake of reports from South Africa that the country’s fast bowler Dale Steyn failed a drug test as a result of taking painkillers to recover from an injury during the IPL.
Cricket South Africa Chief Executive Gerald Majola said today Steyn was found to have morphine level slightly above the normal because of the painkillers he took and CSA has submitted a report in this regard to the IPL authorities.
“We are aware of the result and submitted a report immediately to the IPL on why this has happened,” Majola said.

Organisers of Hockey World Cup fears to coincide with Indian Premier League 2010
August 10, 2009
New Delhi, Aug 10 (PTI) Organisers of the 2010 Hockey World Cup are afraid that advancing the event by a week may not be enough and the final of the event may still coincide with the third edition of the Indian Premier League.
A day before the IPL governing council meets in Mumbai tomorrow, the organisers of the hockey World Cup expect them to come out with the schedule of the third edition of the Twenty20 league which, they fear, might mar their plan.
“In all likelihood, they are starting IPL 2010 from March 12, a day before our final. Since March 13 is a Saturday, we fear they would slot an IPL double-header and that would mean that the final of the 2010 hockey World Cup would go virtually unnoticed,” one of the organisers told PTI on condition of anonymity.
